Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media in addition to a public speaking Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts analyzing the portrayals of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines gender roles within popular culture, is directed by Sarkeesian. In her efforts to dispel the myths about women and popular culture, she works on issues related to targeted harassment against women, as well as the marginalized groups of people in the online world. Sarkeesian, who holds an MS in Social and Political Thought from York University, is also popular as a public speech-maker. She has spoken at TEDxWomen's XOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while being a student at the university. The woman with ambitions to start a web-based series that would examine gender representation within video games, and was herself in the middle for an online harassment campaign.
